lol.terrible list
That's not very nice.
Rene Bourque up in Cowtown isn't bad for a million three, James. 1st in QualComp on the Flames, middling teammates, and plus 20 at EV in 58 games.
Perhaps I was discriminating based on his name being Rene ;). Well-said, Robert. I shall add him to the list.
Any other players deserve a mention?
Oddly enough, he was on the Flames' minor league roster (at least on the NHLSCAP page) so that might be why Bourque slipped under the radar. I'm guessing that must have been around the time the Flames had trouble staying under the cap?
No, they move long term injuries down there if you were using NHLSCAP to pick guys out. He had a high ankle sprain in February, and missed the last two months of the regular season, so he was a LITR guy. Mark Giordano was on that part of the Flames list as well, and got hurt in the same game in Minneapolis in fact. Not a bad guy to add either. Less than 900k with a terrific Corsi rate (21.4). Calgary had good numbers as a team at EV, but his rates are good for what you pay, and his QComp and Qteam numbers were middle of the pack.
As for other guys, Joel Ward in Nashville is a UFA, so he might not technically meet what you're asking for but he only made $500,000 last year. He scored 17 goals and was a very good penalty killer. He might end up with a 100-150 percent raise and still be good value.
Interesting stuff, Robert. It seems like the Flames had an odd mix of huge contracts (Iginla, Kipper, Phaneuf) and great value guys.
Dustin Byfuglien?!?
Guh. Buff's had a pretty good playoffs, but it's the first life he's shown since he signed that deal, and he's been a non-factor against Detroit.
Better to take Seabrook at $3.5 per year, or even Patrick Sharp at $3.9.

Good point, CT. I think I might have been swindled by the fact that he always has this sort of mischievous look on his face. Sharp and Seabrook are better values (and players, really).
